Before Leaving your Present Address: Order the final reading of and request termination of the following services and give date you wish services terminated:
- Gas
- Electricity
- Water
- Telephone
- Cable
- Newspaper Delivery
Send change of address cards to:
- Post office
- Magazines
- Insurance Companies
- Merchants and services with whom you do business
- Friends

- Transfer your bank accounts.
- Notify the principal of your children’s school about your intended move. Request a letter from him/her and from your children’s teachers covering the status of your children in school.
- Obtain birth and baptismal records of your children.
- Notify your place of worship that you are leaving.
- Have your present bank arrange credit references for establishing new accounts in the city to which you are moving.
- Arrange sufficient cash or travelers checks to cover the cost of moving services and expenses until you make banking connections in the city to which you are moving. Cash or certified check is generally required by the moving company.
- Leave keys for your property and your new address with your REALTOR®.
- Winterize your home and check thermostats in winter.
- Request shot records for your pets from your veterinarian.
- Arrange for transfer of your stock brokerage accounts.

At Your New Address: Check on the status of utilities:
- Gas
- Electricity
- Water
- Telephone
- Cable
- Have your stove serviced, check the pilot light if gas.
- Check the pilot light on the hot water heater and furnace.
- Ask the mailman for the mail which he has been holding for your arrival.
- Have your new address recorded on your driver’s
license and vehicle registration. If a new license is required, make arrangements to obtain one within the time allowed in the state to which you have moved.
- Register your children at school, family at place of
worship and register to vote.
